WESTCHESTER COUNTY PROPERTY TAX RATES

The attached charts were compiled from information on the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services website.  Tax rates are generally provided in dollars for thousand of assessed value so-called mil rates.  These mil rates were converted by way of the municipality's equalization rate to tax rates for purported or equalized value.  We then multiplied these rates by 500 and 750 to show what taxes would be in the following communities based upon a single family residence of either $500,000 or $750,000.  Most jurisdictions have different tax rates for commercial and mult-family property so this chart would not apply to these types of properties.  The chart is interesting in that it lays bare how good a job different municipalites have been doing.  While some municipalities like White Plains are able to offset spending by the large base of commercial properties they have, other largely residential communities suffer from the brunt of high school taxes without the ratables to offset these expeneses.
